Website Design & Development

Salem Church maintained a Subsplash website alongside their church app, but they realized over the past year that Subsplash’s limited design and backend functions fell short of their church’s needs. To ensure long-term digital success, I developed a website for them on WordPress with using limited plugins to perform standard church website functions. The website features a custom sermon engine, a custom event engine, and plug-and-play content management, enabling simple and straightforward website management.
This project was done in partnership with D373.

Project Details
The primary objective of the website is twofold: to provide a visually professional appearance while ensuring effortless navigation for users. In order to accomplish this goal, I completed the following:
- Custom desktop and mobile menu for easy navigation
- The homepage, while featuring a simple design, efficiently directs users to their desired sections on the website. Through side navigation, quick link buttons, and event imagery, people will not get lost on the homepage.
- Custom sermon media engine that is not powered by standard sermon media plugins. Since Salem doesn’t need an audio podcast, all content is brought in through YouTube embeds.
- Custom event calendar that removed 90% of the options that churches never use on WordPress calendar plugins.
- A top announcement bar so that if Salem needs to quickly send out information on the website, they can! When there is no announcement, the green announcement bar disappears.
- Salem’s large staff requires quite a bit of updates. I built a custom staff portal for each management, bio updates, and email inputs.
- Rather than create many contact forms, I created just three contact forms and based on which options the website user selects, the correct staff member receives the contact form.
