The circle of life is a well-understood term, thanks to Disney’s Lion King (one of my favorite movies, by the way), but did you know that there’s a circle of life when it comes to your digital marketing? In order to grow your business’ online presence, there’s a cycle of events that takes place that, if done correctly, can boost your website traffic in your sleep. Let’s talk about the 7 parts of your circle of digital marketing.
The 7 parts of the digital marketing circle:
- Better SEO = more clicks and visits.
- More clicks and visits = a need for a better design.
- Better design = more trust.
- More trust = more sales/clients.
- More sales/clients = more referrals.
- More referrals = more income without paid ads marketing.
- More income without marketing = budget for more SEO.
Better SEO = more clicks and visits
Search Engine Optimization (better known as SEO) is the art of getting your website found online. In order to grow your website, you need to get in front of your ideal client.
How do you get in front of your client? You need to create content that is both able to be found and gives Google reasons to show it to the person searching. SEO requires the creation of landing pages for your services, location pages for the areas you service, and blogs and articles to answer people’s questions. If you’re a local business, you can also use a tool called Schema to help your website get to the top of what we call “near me” searches. You know, searches like “plumbers near me,” “balloon artist near me,” etc.
As you create more SEO-focused content, the more likely you’ll appear in people’s searches, which leads to more people visiting your website.
Local business SEO
If you are a local business, you not only need to focus on content creation for your website, but you also need to focus on your local authority and reputation.

More clicks and visits = a need for a better design
Is your website designed in such a way that if 100 new people landed on your small business website, it would be ready to make an impact?
Here are some fast facts for you about the importance of your website’s design:
- 38% of people will leave a small business’ website if the content and design are not visually appealing.
- 75% of users admit that they judge a small business’ credibility based on how the website looks and operates.
- 57% of internet users say they won’t recommend your business to someone else if your small business website isn’t designed to also be viewed on mobile.
If your website doesn’t look great, people may quickly bounce. But if people stay on your website, you have a much higher chance of converting them into clients or customers.
Better design = more trust
As people spend more time on your website, they are able to learn more about your business and your services. They can discover how your services are just what they are looking for, and hopefully, they fill out a contact form to work with you!
A crucial part of having a solid website design is featuring reviews and testimonials on the website. These testimonials prove that you truly deliver what you offer and instill a sense of trust with those browsing your website.
More trust = more sales/clients
Once people realize that you help people just like them (and you have proof to back up your claim), they are more likely to work with you!
Another way to build trust is to feature content around what you are offering (i.e., a portfolio). When you feature your work, process, behind-the-scenes, etc., you are moving past saying you can do the job, and now, you are showing people that you can do the job.
The more you show your work and back it up with testimonials, the more you can get potential customers to trust you.
More sales/clients = more referrals
As you serve more clients, you have more opportunities for reviews and referrals. Most small, local businesses live and die on referrals, but most small businesses like to skip the first four steps which prepare your referrals to know, like, and trust you.
But since you have set up a great website that is prepared to introduce people to your business, you’re able to get more sales and bring in more referrals.
More referrals = more income without paid ads
As you receive more referrals and close more deals, your cost per acquisition goes down because you aren’t having to pay money to get your name in front of cold traffic.
Granted, you should never stop advertising your business around your community, but the best potential client is one that was sent to you from someone that they trust. These folks are already ready to buy and don’t need to be convinced by you to hire you. You just need to be ready to back up any claim made about you and close the deal.
More income without marketing = budget for more SEO
And here we come full circle! As you save money on your cost per lead, you are able to put more money into automating Google review requests, creating more content for your website, and nurturing your leads through email. As you work harder on your SEO, the more eyes that come to your website. The more eyes that come to your website, the more opportunities there are to gain new customers and clients. The more you gain new clients and customers, the more you are able to boost your authority and trustworthiness.
