Website Design & Development
Marquette Manor Baptist Church ministers to the Downers Grove, IL (Chicago) community through their church, Christian academy, and Christian preschool. Starting back in 2023, we began working on all three of their ministry’s website with the church’s website being the final project. The project saw 2 different website interactions, a custom developed members portal, and custom developed sermon media library (because no other sermon media library plugin allowed for the design requests from the church).
Project Needs
Like normal church websites, the needs were simple, but Marquette also required a few different pieces to make the website perfect:
- Plan Your Visit Page
- Individual Ministry Pages
- Detailed Church History Page
- Church Events Calendar (that includes signups)
- Sermon Media Library (with advanced filtering needs)
Project Hurdles
Originally, the website’s design was to match the Academy’s website; however, when we reached the point of near completion, the church didn’t like how the website felt and functioned. This required a new design, new development, and new ideas.
In order to have a sermon library that could serve the church for many years to come, we couldn’t use standard sermon media engines. We had to build our own.
Project Deliverables
Outside of the content you see on the website, here is how I delivered on the specific project needs:
- Sermons
- Sermon videos were embedded with Facebook live videos (instead of standard Youtube, Vimeo, or direct uploads)
- Sermon audio uploads are able to be separated into categories so that separate podcast feeds can be created
- Easily sortable sermon archive page so that series orders can be manipulated by the staff quickly and efficiently
- Advanced filters so that users can find specific sermons on very specific portions of Scripture
- Events
- Over the years, the church has harnessed the power of Google calendars to connect every ministry, school, preschool, and athletics calendar and this is shown on the website
- However, the church wanted to showcase featured events so that specific community events don’t get lost in the shuffle
- These events are able to take registrations and payments, powered through Fluent Forms Pro
- Membership Portal
- Users are able to request and be granted access to the membership portal through registering on the website
- Once someone registers on the website, the Marquette church office is notified and the church goes in to approve or deny the registration
- Once someone is registered, they are able to sign onto the portal to access the member directory, recent Sunday morning bulletins, and the Wednesday prayer list
Over the past couple years, Marc has designed new websites for our academy, our preschool, and most recently, our church.
