What is SEO and Why You Need it For Your Business

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a digital marketing strategy that helps businesses to improve their online presence and visibility in search engine results pages. It involves optimizing your website content, structure, and code to rank higher in organic search results.

In today’s highly competitive digital landscape, having a strong online presence is crucial for any business to succeed. With the majority of consumers using search engines like Google to find products and services, it’s essential to ensure that your website appears at the top of relevant search results.

In this article, we’ll explore the fundamentals of SEO and explain why it’s important for your business. We’ll also discuss some practical tips on how you can implement an effective SEO strategy to help your website rank higher in search results and attract more traffic.

Why Would You Want to Use SEO for Your Business?

Some folks think that slapping a blog post together and posting it on their website is considered SEO, it’s not. However, when done right, SEO is a great tool for your business because SEO works for you while you sleep.

SEO can help you get more traffic, more leads, and ultimately, more sales! The key point here is that SEO has to be done right — it’s more than just posting 1-2 keywords and going from there.

Together we will learn what SEO is, how it works, and what the benefits of optimizing your website are…

  • Increased ranking on search engines
  • Increased visibility
  • Increased organic traffic

I say this time and time again, if you have a website and no one sees it, then there is no point in having a website or a blog. SEO is a game changer, you just NEED to know how to use it, so you can reach those clients!

Here is a breakdown of what SEO is and why you need it for your business.

Keywords

The first stop on the SEO train are keywords. You can use a tool like Ubersuggest (my tool of choice) or KeywordTools.io to find keywords that will help your business gain those leads, prospects, and sales.

A good example would be if you’re an electronic company, you would want to look for keywords like that have to do with that niche. In the keyword finder, you would post “electronics” and you will get a whole list of keywords. Each keyword is ranked high or low. High means that the keyword is used a lot and low means the competition is low for that keyword! Low competition is a great QUE for you to take and USE that keyword!

A few keywords that come up are “how electronics work” and “how electronics are recycled.”  Both of these keywords can be used to create SEO on your blog or website, which in return means people can find you easier.

Be Specific

Keep in mind that SEO can be specific. You can narrow down the keywords to the niche you’re focusing on. Instead of it just being electronics, you could specifically talk about computers or television.

For the sake of the area that I live in, I’ll use South Bend as an example. If you’re an electronics store in South Bend, you may choose a keyword that has to do with both, electronics and South Bend. An example keyword I found on KeywordsTools.io is “tv recycling south bend indiana.” You can create a whole blog post or webpage about tv recycling in South Bend, Indiana.

You don’t have to be a tv recycler per say, but you can be a place where people get knowledge about how to recycle TVs after they purchase them from you or if they cannot be fixed.

Link Building

Another piece to the SEO puzzle is link building. A major part of SEO is building proper links. You want other websites to link to your website because that tells Google that your website is doing something. It’s perfectly okay to ask another website in your niche if you can guest post on their blog! Link building is easier than you think, you just have to have a plan and execute it.

Engage in Social Media

I know some of you guys are fighting the social media train, but it left a long time ago and people aren’t getting off anytime soon. Social media is a part of SEO and you need it for your business. Most clients are going to look for you on social media before they look for you on the website. Just keep this in mind as you develop your SEO strategy.

How Does Your Website Contribute to Proper SEO

While keywords and links are important to SEO, so is HOW your website is built. Your website needs to be used friendly. Your website should be:

  • Clean and easy-to-navigate website
  • Lot of headings to improve readability
  • Site speed is very important
  • Your website should also be optimized for mobile platforms

When you hire a graphic designer or website developer, it’s vital that they know how to build your website according to best SEO practices. If you’re going to pay money to have a website, then it’s important to do it right from the start.
